Breaking News: How far you can get with (just) $56.7 m

Today, West Africa's the largest solar plant was launched - a $56.7 m - project financed jointly by the European Union and Frances Development Agency. The 33-megawatt plant is located outside  Ouagadougou and expected to provide energy for several tens of thousands of households, reports Euractive; crucial, since only 20% of the population has access to the national power system.

On a larger scale, the solar plant is a significant step in Africas Energy Transition.
The continent which is expected to be home to about 2.5 billion people by mid-century desperately needs large-scale access to energy. For the sake of the climate that energy needs to be as clean as possible.     1. Hi Sam, yes, I very much agree. Perspectively, large-scale initiatives are both financially demanding and come with significant downsides (such as the exclusion of affacted in planning and conducting) but after all, will play an increasing role, I would assume. With Chinas growing involvement in various sectors in the continent, we can expect to see more projects like this.
